Crypto, Meta, OF, and more. Let’s dive in.

Crypto.com Sues Woman Over Mistaken Refund

The popular cryptocurrency exchange is suing a woman from Australia, Thevamanogari Manivel, after accidentally refunding her over $10.5 million AUD. The original refund was meant to be just $100 AUD, which the company did not realize until doing an end of year audit on its finances. Crypto.com is going to court to try to get the woman to return the full amount (with interest), however Manivel has already spent some of the money, most notably on a new 5-bedroom house in Melbourne.

Meta Expands NFT Features

Meta announced that they will begin allowing select creators to show NFTs on their Facebook and Instagram profiles. Users will be able to connect their wallet and post NFTs they own to their main feed. Initially, the feature will support popular wallets such as MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and Rainbow, and popular chains such as Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow. As of right now, there are no extra fees to use the feature, unlike Twitter Blue.

Coinbase Price Bug

Coinbase’s trading platform had a massive bug that allowed traders from Georgia (the country) to cash out crypto for over 100 times the actual market rate. The bug — a misplaced decimal point for the Georgian Lari currency exchange rate — lasted for at least 7 hours. Many users who withdrew funds after using the exploit had their bank accounts and associated debit cards frozen while Coinbase tried to recover the funds.

Starbucks New CEO

Laxman Narasimhan will soon become the successor to Howard Shultz as CEO of the Starbucks corporation. His role will officially begin in April, when he will also join the board of directors. Starbucks has been under a slew of controversy for fighting against increased unionization across its stores as well as operation challenges in China due to the pandemic. Narasimhan previously held high positions at Pepsico and McKinsey.

OnlyFans Sky Rockets

U.K based OnlyFans reported their earnings for the year end November 30th, 2021, with very promising results. The company’s net revenue grew 160%, to $932 million, and the gross revenue reached $4.8 billion. While OnlyFans primarily supports adult content, the platform is trying to expand to other avenues such as featuring family-friendly content from mainstream celebrities.

Alleged Tiktok Data Hack

On Monday, several cyber-security analysts tweeted about the discovery of a leaked database and source code from TikTok that contained sensitive user information. Security firms are suggesting users should change their password as an extra precaution. A TikTok spokesperson said they “…determined that the code in question is completely unrelated to TikTok’s backend source code.”

Fun fact: According to a Starbucks spokesperson, there are over 87,000 combinations for drinks on the menu.
